Three Kansas City-area hospitals have agreed to settle with the U.S. Department of Justice for implanting cardiac devices in violation of Medicare coverage rules.
St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam and HCA's Research Medical Center in Kansas City were among 457 hospitals in 43 states to reach 70 settlements with the Department of Justice that totaled $250 million.
